Dear Mr. Secretary General,
June 2, 2015 (SSNA) — We, the undersigned representatives of the South Sudanese Diaspora, write to you this note to express our concerns on the ongoing crisis in South Sudan, particularly the status of civilians currently stranded in UNIMSS protective camps across the country since the outbreak of the conflict in December, 2013.
We would like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to the UMISS team for the unprecedented steps taken to save hundreds of thousands of innocent lives since the beginning of war in South Sudan. Sixteen months had passed since the conflict began and the IGAD-led peace negotiation has not made any progress to bring the war in South Sudan to an end while hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been killed and over 2 million displaced persons are living in dire conditions in UN protected camps and other locations, including neighboring countries.
Given the recent intensification of war and the ethnic targeting of civilians by the government forces in Unity State in particular besides Juba daily murdering base on ethnic group ,we are concerned of civilians targeted by the government of Salva Kirr as it was witnessed in Juba, Bor, Bentiu, Wau and Malakal, and other areas in 2013-2014. Therefore, we are writing to support the recent decision taken by the UN to relocate civilians in protective camps to their original areas in South Sudan and to the neighboring countries with immediate effect. We hope that UN will work with its partners to expedite the process of relocation of South Sudanese IDPs and protect their human right.
