Uganda rejects external intervention in South Sudan

Juba, February 2, 2017 (SSNA) — Ugandan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem said Kampala would reject an imposition “UN trusteeship”, asserting that even South Sudanese rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar would not allow South Sudan to be placed under external power

Oryem statement is a clear response to recent and past suggestions that the best way for the war-torn young nation would be to put it under a joint United Nations and African Union Trusteeship. He described the idea as “colonial mentality.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. That’s a colonial mentality. If an attempt was made to have trusteeship in South Sudan, then I think even the Machar side would resist it and fight it,” Oryem told Reuters, adding “that’s an idea that should not be mooted.”

The Ugandan official also ruled out military intervention in South Sudan, claiming his nation no more interest in sending troops back to South Sudan.

“We were misunderstood by the international community and all hell broke out – we were being accused of everything under the sun and being told to leave. We’ve told them we are not going to go back. Uganda has no more interest in sending its troops and boys to South Sudan,” he said.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is a staunch supporter of South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and had publicly defended Kiir both military and diplomatically.

  • Uganda gains a lot with the mess in South Sudan. War is escalating and you don’t want any external intervention to stop the ethnic cleansing going on in Western Bahr el Ghazal and Equatoria States plus Upper Nile.
Don’t you even seen the influx of refuges to Uganda? Is that what you want to happen?

  • Uganda should help bring stability in South Sudan as the country could become one of its most important trade partner. It is frustrating that the government of Uganda can’t see the economic benefit that Uganda could gain from a stable South Sudan.

For those idiots who are quick to criticize any solution that can bring changes to the current tyrant regime, what is your alternative? The whole system become corrupt, innocent people are being killed, opposition figures are being hijacked and tortured, the economy already scrambling, the health system is waste than ever before, the public sector is filled with unclassified employees who have not acquired required qualifications, every thing become a night mare from the presidency to judiciary to the parliamentary and the worst of all the diplomatic missions are filled with ignorant and unclassified staffs who bring not only shame but tarnish the image of South Sudan among the world nations.
Therefore if you don’t want any foreign intervention, check yourselves whether you are doing the right thing or evil thing. Look around the world have you seen or heard any president being advised by a gang of tribal war lords? The answer is no. Only our shallow minded president Mr cowboy Kiir. Every top position in the country whether being in police, military, foreign ministry, finance sector, almost every sector are being run by one tribe on the rhetoric that we liberated this country. To me that is a foolish and bogus argument because all South Sudanese contributed to the liberation of this nation.
The current regime has wasted all the necessary resources whether being human or natural with corruption and murder since independence up to now. If we have a wise and visionary leader, by now South Sudan would be compared with some of the gulf countries. Hence the only way forward is to change the current corrupt and dictatorial regime of cow boy Salfa Kiir (Kin).

  • Time has come where Africans need to stop fighting each other. South Sudan has one of the greatest agricultural potential to export all kinds of food to the neighboring countries. The climate and rain fall are perfect for this. In addition, it has all kinds of minerals waiting to be exploited. It is unfortunate that the country should decent into this level chaos.
Look at the human cost of this war. Children and women are fleeing for safety in the neighboring countries. These are future generation that would build this country. Infrastructure laid various entities is being torn down. When shall we rebuild this? How long will it take? Where will the money come from? Are we going to run around the world begging for money for development? Who will give that money while everyone knows the end result? Taking into account several decades of underdevelopment by the Northern governments, this war is betrayal of the population in pretence of independence.

  • The East African Blood Sucker Yowrit M7, has killed South Sudanese instead of rescuing them, I think he fed up with the blood money given to him by president Kiir.
