New York, February 23, 2018 (SSNA) — The United Nations human rights investigators have identified senior political and military leaders to be responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The UN stated in its report that it has identified 40 officials of whom five are military colonels and three are state governors.
The report did not mention the names of individuals accused of being responsible for most of the atrocities committed in the ongoing civil war. However, the report stressed that it chose not to name the people accused, citing future court proceedings.
The UN also said it has documented systematic rapes, castration of men, forced sex, and decapitation of suspected supporters of the armed opposition by government forces.
The report further documented children who were forced to watch rape.
