Juba, May 3, 2019 (SSNA) — The transitional army council of Sudan which is running the country has rejected civilian majority in a joint provisional government, the BBC reports.
The report says Lt Gen Salah Abdelkhalek states that the Sudanese military will not accept civilian majority in the government and that the only option the army would allow is an equal number of the military and civilians.
Sudan is currently being run by a 7-member transitional military council headed by Lt. General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan.
Sudan’s longtime rule, Omar al-Bashir was forced out of power by the Sudanese armed forces on April 30.
The Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) is threatening to wage a “million-strong” march in an attempt to try to push the military out of power.
The South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) was told by a South Sudanese government official that President Kiir met with Sudanese rebels on May 2. The official declined to elaborate on what exactly Kiir and Sudan’s rebels have discussed.
