Juba, October 30, 2022 (SSNA) — The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) says it is preparing to shut down the Mingkama-based clinic by December this year.
The agency accuses the European Union (EU) of refusing to fund the reproductive health center.
It is not clear why the EU decided to abandon the program after years of financial commitment.
This is not the first time South Sudan’s health sector faces a financial crisis. In July this year, the United Kingdom (UK) announced that it will stop funding nine South Sudanese government-run hotels.
A senior government official who asked for anonymity because of fear of reprisals told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) in July that some top government officials “have stolen millions of dollars from the money intended for hospitals operations.”
The Mingkama clinic is a reproductive health center and serves at least 200, 000 people, according to the UN.
