Washington, DC, March 7, 2023 (SSNA) — The leadership of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) in the United States has accused President Salva Kiir of what it described as a “flagrant violation of the peace.”

The accusation comes days after Kiir removed Angelina Teny as the defense minister on March 3.

The SPLM-IO says the people of South Sudan have seen peace and hope after Pope Francis visited the young nation in early February and that Kiir meeting with leaders of IDPs and the First Vice President Dr. Machar’s visit to a Protection of Civilians site around Juba showed peace is possible.

“On March 3, 2023, one Presidential decree changed everything, dashed all these hopes, and turned the country upside down,” Dr. Isaac K. Gang, the SPLM-IO Representative to the United States, says in a statement obtained by the South Sudan News Agency.

The statement which also bears signature of the SPLM-IO Chapters Coordinator Simon P. Dak also urges IGAD, AU, Troika, China, and the United Nations to call on President Kiir to reverse the decree.

The SPLM-IO asserts that the September 2018 revitalized peace agreement stimulates that main peace partners like SPLM and SPLM-IO should regularly consult each other when making decision and that Kiir did not consult SPLM-IO leader Machar when he replaced Mrs. Teny. Angelina Teny is the member of the SPLM-IO. Bellow is the statement in an image format.
