Juba, March 29, 2019 (SSNA) — The head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) David Shearer says the time stipulated in the September 2018 peace agreement for parties to South Sudan’s conflict to form an interim government is running out.

The call comes as the African Union raises alarm over concern that parties to the deal may not be able to form a transitional unity government by the dateline specified in the pact.

An intelligence source with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-IN Opposition (SPLA-IO) told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) that the government is impeding the integration of the two armies and refusing to provide adequate funds for peace implementation. The source also accuses the government of systematically limiting the work of peace monitors.

  • Despite being an imposed peace, you wanted it funded. Now make sure the unity government will be there!
