South Africa’s Haysom appointed UN special envoy to South Sudan

Pretoria/New York/Juba, March 19, 2016 (SSNA) — The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-Moon on Friday appointed Nicholas Haysom of South Africa as his special envoy to South Sudan and Sudan.

Haysom, who has been working as UN’s special representative to Afghanistan will assume his new post as UN’s top diplomat to the troubled two Sudans.

Mr. Haysom is expected to replace Haile Menkerios in a few weeks. Menkerios, a graduate of Harvard University, has been the United Nations envoy to Sudan and South Sudan for years.

UN says Haysom is a lawyer with special focus on constitutional, electoral reforms, democratic governance, among others.
