Pretoria/Juba, November 16, 2016 (SSNA) — South Sudanese rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar has criticized Salva kiir’s government over the closure of the independent radio station, the Eye Radio.

The US-funded Eye Radio was shut down last week by South Sudan national security over alleged Machar’s audio clip the FM Radio played on its program. The armed opposition leader also praises the station for tis work during South Sudan liberation struggle.

“Eye Radio has been operating during the liberation struggle for self-determination and independence of South Sudan. I propose the Eye Radio moves to liberated areas,” Machar told the UK-based International Business Times (IBTimes UK).

“It is just another proof of why this oppressive regime must go,” he asserted.

The implementation of internationally-brokered compromise peace deal is in question after Machar fled Juba in July when government troops tried to assassinate him.
