New York/Juba, November 21,2016 (SSNA) — In his speech to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), British Ambassador to the United Nations Matthew Rycroft calls on the 15-member council to act, saying ethnic tensions have reached “breaking point.”

“South Sudan is deteriorating before our very eyes. Ethnic tensions have reached breaking point; the humanitarian situation now rivals the worst on the African continent,” Rycroft said.

“First and foremost, we need to recognise that this is no ordinary civil war. We just cannot stay silent in the face such tragedy, he warned.

The ambassador also calls for immediate end to hate speech and incitement, adding that situation in South Sudan is “grim.”

Rycroft asked the Council to adopt recommendations from the UN special adviser on the prevention of genocide Adama Dieng and head of UN mission in South Sudan Ellen Løj. He also reminds UNSC that the young nation has already “landed on this Council’s agenda 70 times” and wonders why the council failed to speak with one voice to help the people of South Sudan.

  • Mr. Ambassador Rycroft,
Your comments won’t hold any substance because the members states making up the UN Security Council won’t act to help South Sudan out of this problem because the interest they have in South Sudan.

  • Ambassador Mathew you stated it right. United Nation Security Council has all detailed information of what is going on in South Sudan. Up to now they have not taken any optimal measure to address the security issues in that country. The UN, IGAD, US, Great Britain, and other institutions involved in peace building in South Sudan know that the Government of South Sudan is not interested in making any peace with the rebel group because right now all the IGAD member states and the International communiyies have taken side with them.
The only agenda GOSS has in mind now is not peace but rather assassination of Riak Machar. Which they attempted twice but invain. Those involved in peace building in South Sudan should be frano and tell Kiirs regime that assassination of the rebel leader and isolation of his tribesmen and allies will never bring any meaningful peace in South Sudan.

  • I just wrote on my face-book timeline about the daring situtaion in South Sudan the newest nation on earth, why the world body like UNSC is watching the country South Sudan disintegrating without taking any credible action in South Sudan to curve the killing of innocent people of South Sudan by Devil regime of Salva Kiir, echoing the British Ambassador to UNSC, it is absolutely disappointing to see the world younger nation on earth to disappearing on watchful of everyone, particularly the powerful countries like, US, UK, China and the rest, i believe action is needed in South Sudan instead of warning about the arms embargo to that devil regime in South Sudan

  • Mr. Ambassador Matthew of UK, I’m Sincerely Requested you not to get lost on the realities of South Sudan’s catastrophe. So many are there with their special interest in South Sudan and that’s why it is difficult to solve a simple issue. I called it a simple issue because there are many evidences against the engineer of South Sudan’s catastrophe, Dr. Riek Machar. If the Ambassador of UK was talking with sincere and justice in his mind, he would have single out a culprit for the calamity of South Sudan immediately . why those thugs or criminals on the roadside and those mad dogs of Riek Machar are considered the terrorists and charge them with terrorism. How many crime they have committed in South Sudan since 1991 and they are forgiven. This too much forgiveness encouraging criminology, and undermine the rules of law

  • World should stay away from Issues of South Sudan. Few individuals aes themselves criminal or terrorist in South Sudan since they moment struggle up now.I believed such group need to be disciples, when they disciples then long lasting peace will came to South Sudan.otherwise, calls for liberal democracy or federalism people took arms and claimed to be campaigning is not true, but its Eqoutorian sugar coded claimed.
The truth is,most South Sudanese believed rebellion is the gateway to job in government.
Therefore, Westerners must study south Sudanese well rather then supporting what they don’t know. Especially American and Britain must do fully study of these peoples.
The rebels tribes in south Sudan.

  • Blaming the leaders now will not make any sense, once the water pores down it cannot be collected again the only thing we should begin to do is to preach peace to all south Sudanese regardless of their tribes what they did before or after independence, let us burry the past and begin anew chapter, the bible says forgive and u will be forgiven for example Jesus after a painful life experience on the cross but still said Father forgive Them , when will we learn to Forgive for it heal ?

Your at the point but if a lion is eating the hayna comes closer so that it can get later the left over, this issue of South Sudan is not all that difficult to solve but only just I think the Council is ignoring because they have a hand in it if not then what makes them take long to solve an issue like this, If South Sudan was to be a poor country having no good both natural and artificial resources I believe the problem of this New Young Nation would have been solved already but we pray to Jah ( God ) that one day he shall give the New Nation a lasting peace out the help of the so call UN self council.
    Thanks
