Washington, DC/Juba, January 5, 2017 (SSNA) — The United States has issued a travel warning against Americans traveling in South Sudan or people who want to travel to the war-torn country.

On Wednesday, the US State department updated its July 2016 travel warning telling Americans not to travel to South Sudan, citing the ongoing raging civil war.

“The U.S. State Department warns U.S. citizens against travel to the Republic of South Sudan because of ongoing fighting, intercommunal violence, and violent crime. The Department of State has terminated Ordered Departure status for Embassy Juba, and simultaneously adjusted its staffing profile to reflect new conditions on the ground,” the statement said.

The State Department explains in the document that the situation in South Sudan is unpredictable and that there is an increase in intertribal and intercommunal violence, adding that citizens of the United States and humanitarian personnel continue to be the targets of shootings, ambushes, violent assaults, harassment and robberies.

The statement further explains that violent crimes are high throughout the violence-ravaged young nation, including in South Sudan’s capital, Juba.

The new warning is an updated version of the 10th July 2016 travel advisory notice.

    • Out of the extensive list why the US isn’t getting involved with the south Sudanese war, the biggest reason is that there is no clear better option if salva kiir isn’t in charge. Riek Machar is just as bad in different ways. There is no solution to the problem. There never was

    • USA seems to be reducing its level of commitment to South Aidan after being sidelined on oil deals. Secondly, USA cannot solve problems of South Sudan apart from the people & leaders themselves. USA may no be able to support fighting brothers unless the brothers solve and put aside their problems.

They should also thing of not giving any humanterian support which is always diverted to the buying of armunitions by the government. By allowing a conplict ing nation to supper, it can make them thing of peace them selves with out any Intervention. With out support, everything can go deing. “Where is your daily song of arm embergo? We are waiting to dance it”.

  • Kiir has been glued to his seat since 2005. A downward spiral showing that he is utterly incapable to run a nation, except running it into the grave. The international community get upset and issue papers, reports and condemnation upon condemnation, all as useless as Kiir’s propaganda bulletins and his silly decrees.

South Sudan is a failed state, it needs to be put under guardianship for 10 years, question is how to remove the genocidical killer from his seat? Perhaps thro him and his chair into the fire and have it all done with.

If the USA government knows that there is no credible situation in the South Sudan, why the us government use to support dictatorship regime in direct to kill its own citizens and other nations?

Government and every citizen need to be straight forward on our patriotism otherwise we will always be on loggerhead without solution allowing those interested in us killing ourselves benefit.

  • Riek Machar, is fighting back after being scratch by Kiir and if the international communities including US the superpower can’t understand who is bad and good then something is wrong. A government that slaughter it own citizens, humanitarian worker looting, raping and killing innocent civilian should not be allowed to do so. The moral integrity of IGAD, Au and the other peace mediator groups is now questionable for condoning Salva Kiir to fight R.M in Juba in July and subsequently illegal replacement of R.M by a tractor Taban Deng. Even the move to detain R.M in South Africa Will never bring peace because the problem is not R.M but the people of South Sudan who want a change and total reform in the governing the country

    • *uck US. They can go to hell. South Sudan is not DRC. It has got real African . If you got no job in your country , stay there and don,t step in other people country affairs. I hate your big dumb ass devil mouth. Killing of African American everyday by your white fucken cops is enough. Even if you take over as UN, you will be dying one by one every day.

  • The biggest problem in South Sudan is because USA has involved deeply into South Sudan civil war. There is no comparison between Kirr and Machar as you have presumed. Kirr leadership has been without mercy against his own citizen, crime and tribalism is raging at his watch and yet American still congratulate him. Keeping Kiir in power is perlonging the conflict of South Sudan because it now appears the war is between Dinka and Nuer which need a wise decision from America not just keep damping in power it will have long negative consequence to this nation. One for all we need to disemental such transitional government and invite other leader a part from gentlemen if US is neutral and wise to solve South Sudan problem. Bringing new leadership will have chance removing all war monger on both side and that leadership will closely working to unite country based on principle with fauvoured and tribes… then should be followed by election… at the end period of transitional.
The problem of South Sudan will continue as long as no guides line from US to solves it… Kirr will still killing more people beyond 2018 as he wishing to continues to be president to avoid accountiblity and his chohort.

  • Is US helping south Sudan? or ruining it The reason behind this question is because as the situation worsen. The Us adviced it’s citizens to keep away, what about the innocent south Sudanese citizens who can’t help themselves in such a situation who will adviced them.If US is fair enough the should settle this problem once and for all.

  • Am not sure that the two parties IGAD & US will solve anything in south Sudan because they did not find who started the violence after macar’s arrival to juba as per now part of the country is in protection camps

  • No one have right to blame USA,i do give them right for warning their citizens for traveling to any country with war such as south sudan.and kiir is man of peace than any leader in south sudan.the day he step down the worse will appear than what we are seeing at the moment. We all know that riek has no good history in our country and yet some believe in him as a good man.kiir fought for our right for years and he never turn his back on us.he never point his gun at his people.whereas we all know that riek is always a rebel fight for someone else.in 1991 riek turn his back on spla and he told his people that is nuer and dinka.majority died during that time, and yet he was forgiven and against he repeated same category as well as more than three time till 2013 when he leave his own seat and turn people back to conflict.and now all majority have died in his hand.of riek vice president what can lead him to a war.he has right to mobilize people in a good war instead of conflict. Isn’t that easy for someone like him to take a presidency position by power.Taban Deng Gai is way better than riek
