Pagak, January 7, 2017 (SSNA) — The intelligence unit of the Sudan’s People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) says it has delivered a decisive blow to a rebel group linked to Dr. Lam Akol and South Sudanese government in Upper Nile State, the armed opposition has announced.

General Gabriel Gatwech Chan, who is also known as Tanginye, was killed in Amrah by the SPLA-IO under the overall command of Lt. Gen. Johnson Olony.

The SPLA-IO intelligence told the South Sudan News Agency that it has been tracking activities of Tanginye and his Generals linked to Akol’s Juba sponsored rebel faction.

The armed opposition says Tanginye soldiers first attacked one of its strategic locations in Upper Nile State in move seen as a plan to clear ways for Juba to bring in a combined force from South Sudan’s government, Sudanese JEM rebel group, and the SPLA-North.

South Sudanese rebel say they killed Gen. Tanginye early this week after he refused to accept “options’ given to him by the SPLA-IO.

The rebel military command also announced today that its troops killed Yuanis Okiech who they described as deputy to Tanginye, adding that Okiech was killed along with his bodyguards in mountainous location after his communications and movements were intercepted by the SPLA-IO intelligence division.

Warning to anyone who betrays the SPLM/A-IO

In a move seen as new, the rebels announced today in Pagak that anyone who is with the armed opposition and dares to commit or suspected of committing an act of betrayal against the SPLM/A-IO will be dealt with. The coordinated announcement was made at Pagak stadium and other rebel-held territories.

“Anyone is free to defect or claim defection, but when we identified you, you will be swiftly dealt with,” a senior rebel officer told the South Sudan News Agency on Saturday in the SPLM/A-IO stronghold Pagak.

Gatwech was the Chief of Staff of Akol’s Juba-linked rebel movement.

The new strategy, rebels claim, will allow the SPLA-IO and its intelligence branches to deal with any individual or group suspected of duplicity.

Certainly in part IO has so far done tremendous job by eliminating the group linked to blush regime in Juba; it’s very high time for people’s movement to get rid of any group wanted to act against it moves. Aluta continua….

  • These brutal killings remind us all of 1991 rebellion which eventually led to untimely death of SPLA most senior commanders – Joseph Oduhu, William Nyuon, Karbino Kwanyin, in addition thousands etc.
Can you imagine, nothing is good in waging war, especially aimless one as this. All South Sudanese need is to sit down talk and talk, it’s the only path where peace can be achieved.

I agreed with the Joseph Backdoor. Southsudan need federal system in the country . For example, rebels killed them self in upper Nile is a bad idea. The federal system is good because I will take care of my self in my state. The people of upper Nile like to fight with out problems always let them take care of them in upper Nile because they like to cause the always the time.

    • True they need to sit down and talk and talk. However, they need a neutral venue to talk freely.

well done brave and courageous people in opposition. Our problem is not Salva kiir, Malong or the Dinka elders. Our problem is these useless, unpatriotic and sell out individuals who service the interests of this tribal government while witnessing their communities destroyed and annihilated. It’s time to deal with these traitors and take the fight to Warrap and give those ungrateful savage and cannibal like dogs a taste of what they started. God bless Junub Sudan

  • Those killed were rebel commanders. They were under Dr Lam Akol who recently relinquished his ministerial portfolio under his independent political party that is different from the president’s as well as the IO faction under the leadership of the FVP. Dr Akol gave up his role, left the country and formed the insurgency in which the duo murdered had pledged loyalty to him and swore to work with like minded rebels to overthrow the Government of National Unity. The like minded are presumably those loyal to Dr Machar, his militiamen and various independent rebel factions. Surprisingly the singing in the same hymn books turned out to be kapaaaaaaw and kaboom of death over the suprimacy of illegal taxations and C-in-Cship in the area. The assassinated commanders didn’t have a link with the government under their chairman. Their blood is on the shoulders of the IOs who killed them, not the government. If the deceased were in partnership with the government, they would have numbers, well equipped and protected but nothing spares lives of everyone better than joining the national dialogue and reconciliation to end senseless war and accomplish peace.

  • What was the reasons of rebellion even though those rebels don’t agree amongst themselves. Waste of manpower, those rebels decieved by Phd. Holders since 1991 and they still them till now. The notions of changing governments by bullets don’t work, both riak and lam tried before but failed miserably after lossing many lives.what a waste of phd acquisition
