Egyptian Air Force bombs South Sudanese rebels in Upper Nile

Pagak/Juba, February 3, 2017 (SSNA) — The military command of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) has accused Egyptian air force of carrying out air attacks on its bases in Kaka town, saying Cairo dropped at least nine bombs and explosions.

Rebel military spokesperson Colonel William Gatjiath Deng, who declined to offer more details, warned that the involvement of JEM, the SPLM-North, and Egypt in the ongoing civil war could provoke a regional war.

“The continuous involvement of the Sudanese rebels and the escalation of the Egyptian participation in the ongoing war in South Sudan are clear indications to the people of South Sudan, the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN) and the international community that the Juba regime is provoking the region and tilting South Sudan for a regional war,” he said.

Col. Deng also claimed two Sudanese rebel groups: Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the SPLM-North sneaked into South Sudan Thursday from their northern base called Angathna in the Blue Nile and that their intention is to attack and retake Mustakbal, Wadekona, and Detang from the armed opposition.

He further asserted in a statement that combined forces of government and Sudanese rebels launched a coordinated attack on SPLA-IO positions in Detang today, which he said resulted in a shocking defeat to Lelo, adding rebel forces inflicted heavy losses on the enemies forcing them to flee to areas in Renk, Malakal, and Paloch.

He added the SPLA-IO captured 43 PKMs and 300 AK-47s in good condition.

The rebel spokesman further explained that Juba-backed forces were also repulsed in Booth and Mayom of Unity State. He claimed SPLA-IO Special Division captured nine government soldiers and that they are being treated as Prisoners of War.

South Sudanese rebels have increasingly become suspicious of recent bilateral agreements Cairo strucked with Juba.

In January, the SPLM/A-IO accused South Sudan and Egypt of striking a “dirty deal,” saying the agreement would allow Kiir to receive lethal weapons and ammunition from Egypt to wage a full-scale war against the armed opposition.

“There is a dirty deal going between Kiir and El-Sisi. the issue of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is one of the main deals being finalized in Cairo. Our intelligence sources in Kampala and Juba confirmed that Egypt wants South Sudan and Uganda to be her regional allies so that she can advance its covert sabotage campaign against the Ethiopian Dam. The man [Kiir] is a double agent; he will cause many problems for the entire East Africa region,” a senior rebel official told the South Sudan News Agency last month.

The official added that Egyptian military experts and engineers have been in Juba for months and that the entire secret military deal between Juba and Cairo was orchestrated by Kampala last year.

Col. Deng calls on the AU, UN, and the international community to investigate Egypt’s involvement in South Sudan civil war.

Now you are talking about using other countries army and chemical weapon against rebels. What happened to the Mathiang angor and the commando of SPLA. Is it not shameful. The best thing to do is to realize that there is no winner in this war and that the only way to peace is reviving the August 2015 agreement.

You are absolutely right, but what happen in South Sudan it is atrocity and catastrophic.
No one in the World can kill innocence people door to door, by aligation that there is a coup! But the question is, if there is a coup has been made! What involved citizen into that coup?
Look at president Hassan Al basheer, how many time politician make a coup against him! But he never ever send the national security to execute citizen door to door…
Like what happen in Juba Dec, 13- 15, 16 2013.
This is the root caused of our problem in South Sudan, the war has been erupted by the Government of South Sudan By killing his own citizen.
The Bible says say the truth and the truth will set you free…

Well, my comment it’s very simple, I would like to say some thing very import to the Egyptian Government, that they should not involve to South Sudanese’s civil war, they suppose to be a good mediator or neutral instead to fuel the war.
And by the way, changes is coming on the way, what will be the stand of the Egyptian Government in the long run?!.
The Egyptian Government have to think twice before involving himself into this war.
I think the consiquency will be very serious to the Egyptian Government, in the future.
I urge the Egyptian Government not to be a baise but to be a neutral.
In term of bialaterial relationship between South Sudan and Egyptian Government in the future…

    Thank you

  • The Egyptian opportunists’ regime leaves no chance when advancing their own interest at the expenses of any one including the Southern Sudanese people, no matter what. They never cared for no one except reaching their goal of attempting to halt the completion of the Ethiopian Dam on the Blue Nile. They do view the erection of that Dam as a matter of life and death. But the reality is far from that. But it has evoked irreversible paranoia in Cairo’s regime mind. On the other hand, the inhuman narcissistic TPLF regime of Ethiopia is using this presumed war with Egypt as a mechanism to divert people’s attentions from the boiling oppositions in the country. Therefore supporting either side is a losing ground. Because, the Ethiopian people will develop their country whether Egypt like it or not. They do not have to ask or seek any permission from Egypt. But both Nations could have consulted each other and work together to promote what will be in the best interest of both Nations cohesively and diplomatically. In Ethiopia, had the government of people, by the people of Ethiopia became empowered, the hard working and the innovative sector of the population of Ethiopian could have turned Ethiopia to self-sufficient and even supporting other Nations by using the modern technology of mechanized farming, scientific and agricultural research that could have ended the cycles of hunger and consequently ever looking for the international handouts years after years. But the priority for TPLF- the undemocratic regime of Ethiopia remains how to deprive Ethiopians from all their god given democratic rights, and natural belongings just to remain in power in Addis. So the South Sudan is caught between these two arrogant crocodiles. God save Africa.

  • Interesting,

From which airforce base are the Egyptian flying? They have a range of 2000km flight. .. Fact is no country on the world won A WAR BY AIRFORCE ONLY. As we know not even the Saudi Arabia with its MIGHTY economy. Egyptian Army (close to 40000 strong, by the admission of the president ) is waging a war against its opponents inside Egypt.

in order to be militarily successful in South Susan, Egypt needs at least another 40000 or more boots of its own army on the ground.

politically even now Egypt lost the status of neutrality. this is a big blow, since Egypt wanted to send peace keepers under UN to South Sudan.

Ethiopia and Sudan must have a good radar tracking mechanism over south Sudan by now.
if some one succeed to shoot down just one fighter jet, that will suffice to change around the political wind completely.

    • I guess you have missed a zero, the Egyptian army is ranked 12th worldwide in the last global fire power report and has the 8th largest air force, not to mention long range BM’s

      Reply
      • No Mark, the total standing army number is not my point of discussion.

Even with the number I referred, the Egyptian economy is not going to sustain a long and protracted war.

Basically what Egypt looking after is Ethiopia’s agroeconomic activity in the Abay and other subbasines of Nile within Ethiopian territory. The primary focus for now is of course GERD. Most likely Ethiopia’s strategy for this will be war of attrition.

The dilemma for Egypt is: if Egypt choose to go to war with Ethiopia, for example by expanding this conflict, it will take several years (I would think three to five years) to get a decisive output. AND nobody knows if Egypt is going to get the upper hand in the war.

Remember as Hitler started the second World War, his intention was to celebrate the end of the war (as a winner) on the Streets of MOSCOW! but what the result was we all know.
In Hitler’s war planning, he forgot one extremely important General of Russia with all his divisions, that was GENERAL WINTER. That was his try then. Now if Egypt comes to Ethiopia, There is a local General whose name is MOUNTAIN AND VALLEY of Ethiopia. By the way this same General is responsible for the supply of ran and 80% of the Nile river flow at peace time to Egypt. This seemingly quite Ethiopian General, will eventually, single handedly, change the outcome of any war. Why because it is hard to quantify the behavior dimension it properly.

REMEMBER fighter jets, bombers, ballistic missiles WILL NOT DECISIVELY change the outcome of a war, if Egypt decide to choose this route. The only way is ground fight, and that will be very messy.

Egypt don’t go to war with Ethiopia, don’t be FOOLED due to the quietness and low development of the region.

        Reply
        • Egypt isn’t interested to take sides in the SS conflict. Also not interested to get involved in a full scale pointless war with Ethiopia. The only problem for Egypt is the dam and if it’s shown to be harming Egypt, the navy is there and there’s a newly purchased French air craft carrier for that cause. Just bomb the dam get out. No interest to enter the mountainous Ethiopian realm with boots on the ground. Egypt is only concerned with is own affairs not interested in ” regime changes”.

My Dear African Leaders and Citizens of Africa and African Diaspora, I think we all know the consequences of war and dictatorship. This reminds me the famous proverb that sates “those who live by the sword die by the sword”. Regional war never benefit anyone. The current reality in the Middle East is a typical example. Making South Sudan a battle ground is not in favor the people of South Sudan. The people South Sudan don’t deserve this after many decades of disaster in the region. It is just a last attempt by inhuman leaders in the region. Victory is neither by mighty nor by power but by being ethical and being visionary for the public interest. The so called leaders should learn putting humanity first rather than greed. STOP WAR. WAR CAN ONLY DEVASTATE LIVES WITH ZERO SUM OUTCOME!! Be mindful of the consequences of war. For every reaction there is equal and opposite reaction. Let’s think as a generation in 21st Century. Fueling war and being bully has never ever benefited nations. Let African leaders learn how to develop mutual cooperation and strategic partnership for the sustainable development in the continent. STOP WAR. …Matthew 26:51-52 “At this, one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. “Put your sword back in its place, Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

I think the violence that going on in South Sudan its casted don’t even’t ignored any neighbors country to South Sudan get ready for war, the book was written in 1906 talking about the current situation going on now, those Nuer or Rebel they will not give up, but the book say the Nuer remain very few of them because the war will finish them and fitting into one hand they will win the victory and that will be end of war in East Africa. please just go to colonial library and the University Cambridge and find the book.

  • I believe JCE governments is coming for the destructions of South Sudan. They have no idea that what ever they are planning is a human plan, but God has a plan to rescue South Sudanese from this satanic leadership of JCE. Just to give you head, what Egypt is doing was already prophecies and things will get ugliest in Eastern African countries in general.

Wow, what a good news but we africans needs to asure this brand commetment. But we have dougt on the above statment. Since the ppl crying by the bombardment. So plz plz …..we needs to leave the other country issue to solve by their owen. If we interfer like Syriea it is endanger. So, now a day africans are stable rather than other. So, desterbing a settiled continants to use a proxy war using other country is bad.
    God bless Ethiopia.

  • Guys, I am feeling that we Africans are not lucky people. Because, we are killing each other all the time. The issue is not only about South Sudan, Egybt and Ethiopia but also, as an African, when will be the time to work togther so as to build stronger economy, prosper togther and benefit cevillians. I do not thik that our problem is not lack of physical resource, but lack of positive thinking as well as common purpose. Hence, African leaders have to think critically on how in order to stop such kinds of inter-gernerational conflict!

  • Who do you think benefit from war among black Africans? People in SS are suffering a lot fleeing for their lives. Children are starving and dying. Let us come to our senses. Let power, money and greediness do shade our eyes. problems of south sudanese people can only be solved by themselves with mutual respect, with the feeling of building one strong south sudan. AK47 will not take us anywhere except suffering of the people.
