Heavy fighting erupts in Pagak

Pagak, August 10, 2017 (SSNA) — Heavy fighting between South Sudan’s warring factions broke out in South Sudan’s Pagak town, the main rebel headquarters located at the Ethiopian border.

The fighting broke out hours after a plane from Juba took off from Pagak airport.

Sounds of heavy artillery and explosions can be heard from 30 kilometers (18 miles) away, causing civilians in the surrounding area to flee.

South Sudanese rebels say they launched the attack after government forces refused to surrender or vacate their stronghold, Pagak.

“We told them to leave Pagak or surrender, but they refused. So, we decided to attack them,” Deputy Commanding General of the SPLA-IO 5th Division Major General James Ochan Puot told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA).

On Monday, the SPLA-IO urged Pagak residents to stay in their homes, warned of the imminent attack, and suggested that government troops surrender before it is too late.

In what a SSNA reporter calls “surprising move,” a rebel military intelligence agent willingly disclosed to the South Sudan News Agency that their intelligence branches and contacts in neighboring countries knew that a military airplane loaded with government troops, weapons, and ammunition was scheduled to arrive in Pagak Thursday evening. The officer asserted that they are prepared to “teach government troops a good lesson.”

A SSNA crew embedded with the SPLA-IO commanding Generals have been prohibited by the armed opposition not to fully cover the fight, citing their military combat rules which exclude civilians in active war zones. We will update you as more details emerge.

I guess you are following this story very well who attacked in the first place if you can call leader primitive then you are equal primitive .our people will never understand, we all no that our country is far behind in everything and all this mistakes we among ourselves, in the government, in our communities is cos we are in the learning process and we know very well that in this process we bound to make mistakes others can be grave one that is why we preach word of reconciliation and forgiveness cos we are one, this is not the case then why did we fought for I may say we were better off when ruled by Arabs though we shall remain like slaves than shading blood of our own people. We are fighting killing innocent lives but if may ask any citizen of s. Sudan what is the fight about, don’t get surprised to hear that cos they have stolen our cows we want them back because 95/. Of our people don’t anything about governance or what it means by politics. So guys style up don’t start a journey which has know destination is like taking a rout which you don’t know where it ends.

Fighting will never never change our own country and less we have put the peace in our heart of resilience of the most important human rights. Riek Machar will never be south Sudanese citizen

    • You should not ask this question while, you knew it when the pro Riek Machar made attacked and capture Kuek Bama in Upper Nile region. Second to that, your uncle Riek Machar refused to me the members National Dialgue committees in South Africa and also he refused to dennonued the violence and puts down guns. There is no point of blaming Juba’s gov while the former vp is addicted to the use of violent

This country will not achieved peace if South Sudanese still behavior like primitive monkeys depending on tribes lines not national line especially these two tribes Dinka and Nuer they are the one put this county into the hot water, if nuer is in the power, Dinka will go out and fight the regime which is rule by nuer, if Dinka is in power nuer will go out and fight against the regime which is by rule Dinka, so this country of Dinka and nuer I do think peace shall come while others tribe got tried of these two tribes in south Sudan.

People of South Sudan, let’s forgive each other and help Salva Kiir Mayardit and Taban Deng Gai in the Implementation of the Peace Agreement. There is no need of fighting at this time, it is a time to “BUILD” not to “DESTROY”. We have destroyed a lot during the Civil War and now is our actual time to build South Sudan. Personally, I condemn what had happened and I urge SPLA and the SPLA-IO armies to silence guns and come together as brothers, sitting together and solve the issue on the table. We are a nation under one government, we are not a tribe. SOUTH SUDAN “ONE NATION ONE PEOPLE”.

Well done SPLA Io who are giving a lesson learn to juba regime.
Again my advice is this, people are confusing calling SPLA io is belong to Nuer alone, what I understand is not Nuer Government alone but those who need Democratic will follow Dr Riek Machar and confusing people on dectotarshiop will follow Kir.
Another advice let us talk to Human Right watch to continue on peace processing

  • The peace can be retained through the use of energy not dialog with only one reason” if the ruling parties in the whole African countries are always winning when coming to election” why should we go for election then? If I were the electronic commission, I would have burned elections in Africa!!!

  • Hi all! You always talk of peace in south Sudan! How can peace be brought to South Sudan when South Sudan with is ruled by two presidents. I you need to know that south of Sudan war remains at large bse of that. kiir is doing that bse of someone influence whose aims is to conquer South Sudan wealth and resources. To bring peace! Let us tried to make a quick diagnosis to the disease. The igads should should be blamed too for their delay in bringing everlasting peace. In fuck they have done harm than good. Truly let us know that good person had put in wrong place and bad one was put in a right place. A good neighbor always rescue a burned house with water and a bad one adds petrol to increase fire such that the house get burned completely. However, I I would love to answer any questions that you may wish to ask if any! God bless South Sudanese refugees.
