Oslo/Juba, April 21, 2018 (SSNA) — A senior Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) official has died on Friday after battling with liver cancer, the leadership of the armed opposition has said.
SPLM-IO’s representative to Scandinavian countries, Daniel Wuor Joak, died on Friday after battling with the disease for a year.
In a statement obtained by the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA), rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar described late Daniel as “a strong mouthpiece in the current struggle for reforms and federalism,” adding, Daniel was a “staunch supporter for self-determination and independence for people of South Sudan.”
Daniel was Upper Nile State’s minister of education, science, and technology before war broke out and author of a book, “The Rise and Fall of SPLM/SPLA Leadership.” Late Daniel was also a former MP in South Sudan’s Legislative Assembly and authored many opinion articles on several local and international media outlets including the South Sudan News Agency.
