Juba, November 17, 2018 (SSNA) — Troika countries, namely Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States have urged South Sudan’s warring parties to respect their commitments to Khartoum’s peace agreement, according to a statement.
Troika says the two main parties to the armed conflict, the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement/Army-In Opposition (SAPLM/A-IO) and the government must respect their commitments to the deal.
“We urge all parties to uphold their commitments and cooperate on addressing and preventing violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and the new peace agreement,” the statement reads in part.
Troika, which acts as the guarantor of Khartoum’s pact, also praises the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), for playing a vital role in the peace process.
“IGAD and its member states have been crucial to the progress made so far. The region’s continued engagement is essential to help this latest agreement deliver a lasting peace,” the text further explains.
Troika also calls on South Sudanese government to demilitarize the capital, Juba, according to the statement obtained by the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA).
