Bentiu, November 30, 2018 — Unknown gunmen have carried out a 10-day raping sphere in Northern Liech State, an aid group Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said in a statement.

The agency said the gunmen spared no age during the violence act.

“Some are girls under 10 years old and others are women older than 65. Even pregnant women have not been spared from these brutal attacks,” Ruth Okello told MSF.

Victims also said the gunmen took their clothes, ration cards, shoes, and money.

Northern Liech State’s information minister, Lam Tungwar, denied the allegations.

“A rape of such a magnitude is not true. We are a state that respects human rights and women’s rights top our list,” Lam told Reuters.

It is not clear who carried out the rape. However, a woman at a UN-run camp in Bentiu who asked her name to be protected told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) on Friday that her relative was one of the victims and that those who raped the women were part of a government-sponsored militia group operating in the state.

“One of my relatives was raped. Those guys were part of a militia group operating here in the state,” adding, “They are working for the government,”

The South Sudan News Agency was also told by a United Nations diplomatic source that a new report by a panel of experts is being circulated at the Security Council and that the report exposes an extreme “levels of sexual violence.”
