Juba, December 4, 2018 (SSNA) — A fierce battle erupted between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) and a government forces on Tuesday morning after government troops and a militia group launched a surprise attack on a rebel-held position in Liech State’s Guit County, the armed opposition says.
The rebel leadership condemns the attack, describing it as “a direct violation of the agreement” signed in Khartoum and calls on IGAD and African Union (AU) to condemn what it calls “unlawful violation by government forces.” The attack, according to the rebels, was instigated by commanding officers of government troops in the areas. The SPLA-IO also blames a government-sponsored militia operating in the area.
“Today this morning at 7:30 AM, government forces under the notorious General “Dor Manjur Gatluak” attacked the known SPLA (IO) cantonment at Bil Payam in Guit County, Lich State. The SPLM/A-IO forces under Guit Commissioner Col Mawic Dobuol Nger responded to the attack more excessively and repulsed the notorious militia forces toward Kuergeng,” SPLA-IO’s spokesman, Brig. Gen. William Gatjiath Deng, said in a statement obtained by the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA).
In the document, Brig. Gen. William states that 15 government soldiers were killed while the armed opposition lost two soldiers. The rebel spokesman also asserts that the operational commander of government troops Brig. Gen. Kuol Tuoth was seriously wounded and that the SPLA-IO believes he is dead.
The SPLA-IO blames General Dor Manjur and General Pui Yaka for ordering government forces to attack its cantonment site. Brig. Gen. William discloses that rebel troops captured three government-linked soldiers alive and that the SPLA-IO also captured 5 PKMs, 3 RPG7s, and 17 AK47s.

The government should never sign any peace agreement with SPLM-IO. The SPLM-IO and supporters always continue, despite peace settlements. Juba three is on its way. Government beware!
