Khartoum/Juba, January 3, 2019 (SSNA) — A team sent to Khartoum by South Sudan’s government to register its support to Sudanese government has declared that Juba is fully behind Khartoum, saying South Sudanese government firmly support Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in the ongoing protest.

The group, led by South Sudanese President special envoy Gatluak Tut declared in a news conference in Khartoum that South Sudan fully back the Sudanese leader because he was the first person who recognized South Sudan’s decision to secede from Sudan in July 2011 and that he is also the person who came up with ongoing South Sudan’s peace proposal, Beijing-based Xinhua reported.

“We came to Khartoum to reiterate our stand alongside al-Bashir as he is the first president to recognize South Sudan and he is the one who proposed the initiative to resolve South Sudan problem,” Gatluak said, adding, “We stand with Sudan and hope the Sudanese people would not repeat the mistakes of neighboring peoples.”

Gatluak also explained during the press conference that Juba and Khartoum are working to improve the economic situations of the two sisterly countries.

A senior government official with South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs who spoke to the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) in Juba on condition of anonymity said there is no way Kiir would abandon al-Bashir because the Sudanese President has “too much influence” in South Sudan’s internal affairs.

“He [Kiir] has to support him [al-Bashir], there is no way around that,” he declared, adding, “The man’s influence in South Sudan is too much.”

Sudan has recently been hit by protests over price hikes of bread and other food commodities.
