Juba, January 23, 2019 (SSNA) — South Sudanese government on Wednesday said it has no money for the implementation of the September 2018 peace agreement and wants the international community to fund the process, South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

In his address to diplomats in Juba, foreign affairs minister Deng Dau Deng asserted that the young nation lacks the capacity to fund the peace implementation, especially transportation of troops to cantonment sites.

“Our specific appeal is for our partners and for the diplomatic community in Juba to give support to plug the gaps… so that we can move. If you don’t have resources, you cannot move. It is availability of the resources that will actually enhance the process itself,” Deng was quoted by the AFP as saying.

The war-wracked young nation now claims it only has $1.6 million dollars for the implementation of the agreement.

The South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) understands that the international community, especially Troika countries (the United Kingdom, Norway, and the United States) which have been the main donors to the ongoing peace process are skeptical of the viability of the Khartoum’s peace deal, prompting Juba to make a public appeal.

    • I totally agree with you. When it comes to us, the people, we’re always met with ‘there’s no money’. I can’t even.
