Juba, February 18, 2019 (SSNA) — The World Health Organization (WHO) increases its medical operations in South Sudan in hope to help contain diseases in case of an outbreak, the agency has announced.

WHO’s South Sudan representative, Dr. Olushayo Olu, explains that his agency main goal is to intervene, investigate, and contain “suspected disease outbreaks.”

“Provision of medical emergency kits for essential lifesaving health interventions is vital to investigate suspected disease outbreaks and respond in a timely manner, and save the lives of displaced populations, said WHO Representative for South Sudan,” Dr. Olushayo says.

The UN-run health group says it has received funding from South Sudan Humanitarian Fund and European Union Humanitarian Aid and that it plans to establish the services to South Sudanese refugees, IDPs, and hos communities in at least 22 locations.

South Sudan’s health sector still weak and depends heavily on the United Nations and international humanitarian health organizations.
