Juba, June 12, 2019 (SSNA) — South Sudan’s petroleum minister, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, has been removed from the post, according to a presidential decree broadcasted live on the state-run SSBC television.

The government did not provide details on why the former minister was fired.

Awou Daniel Chuang who served as the Director General of the oil ministry has been appointed as the new oil minister.

Ezekiel is a close political ally of the current First Vice President Taban Deng Gai. For weeks, rumors have swirled in Juba that the former petroleum minister has been systematically sidelined by the presidency.
