Juba, October 25, 2019 (SSNA) — Heavy flooding in South Sudan has caused extensive damages and uprooted nearly a half of million people from their homes, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says on Friday.

In a statement seen by the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA), OCHA explained that floods affected a lot of people and that funding is urgently needed.

“Abnormally heavy flooding has been devastating large areas of South Sudan since July, with 900K people affected,” the statement reads in part.

“Our first priority is to save lives and uphold people’s dignity,” UN’s South Sudan Humanitarian Coordinator, AlainNoudehou, said.

The refugee agency added heavy flooding also affected South Sudanese refugees and Internally Displaced persons.
