Addis Ababa, February 8, 2020 (SSNA) — The Presidents of Uganda Yoweri Museveni rejected a decision by IGAD’s Council of Ministers to reduce the number of South Sudan’s current 32 states to 23 plus Abyei.

TThe Council of Ministers of the East African regional bloc, IGAD, made a decision today in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.

The issue of the number of States and boundaries is one of the outstanding issues preventing South Sudanese warring parties to form a transitional government by the February 22nd dateline.

The Ugandan leader who publicly supports President Salva Kiir arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday evening. After his arrival, he addressed the Council of Ministers, saying their decision to reduce the number of states is not supported by any reason. Museveni then asked the Council of States conduct more consultations with Kiir and the opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar tomorrow morning before IGAD’s heads of state and government make a final decision on the issue  of the number of states and boundaries.

One senior SPLM-IO official who demanded anonymity described Museveni’s demand as “not new” and accuses him of working against peace.

“Museveni is an ally of Kiir. He fought alongside Kiir against us (SPLM/A-IO) so we are not surprised,” the official says, adding, “If he doesn’t like the number of states  be reduced then we would like to know what he wants.”

“Museveni position as a peace maker while advocating for the same status quo in South Sudan will never be accepted,” the official asserted.

It is not clear what IGAD’s heads of state and government will decide tomorrow. However, several officials with IGAD Secretariat told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) most IGAD’s leaders no longer support  Museveni’s more than six years of opposition to find lasting peace in the war-wracked young nation.

I can’t see any reason for museveni to involve greatly in South Sudan conflict. IGAD should really act against peace blockers like Yoweri to attain peace in this young nation. tell him this is not about who benefit from South Sudan we the citizens of this nation are tired of interest from Kiir and Yoweri.

Things needs to be remember by that two leaders are; African plans for Africa in 2063 can not be canceled because of their interest, we are all on the ways to continental independent. Any one who rejected those African plans, should be leaf behind. It is batter to lost two of them than to lost another 50 years.

South Sudanese are tired of being away from their own country.. I can’t see the reason which can made museveni to take decision against peace when his own people are living peacefully without war or shortage of schools or famine and he is claiming that south Sudan should remain in war while he is developing his country with our resources

Look at the evidence of his actions against the brings peace in the country previous weeks ago he wrote a quote that when he died, he will tell God that he did all things to Uganda.

  • Museven aim is to kiir like him, but that can not happen in s.Sudan. museven knows, peace will immediately come to south Sudan when the number of states is resolve, so he will not be getting the dona when the refugees live the country. So Mr museven, curse on the ones who is against the south Sudan peace.🙄

We want peace in South Sudan but shouldn’t be in that way. In 2013 we were having Ten States in South Sudan but Machar revealed so the ideal of states isn’t the factor to revolution

It is not a surprise that Museveni is teaching the regional leaders in the region to hang around the power like what he does in Uganda, he fear because the deal reached on the number states and the Government is formed, Museveni will lose his incentive

  • This whole thing is drama, according to my understanding, i think Ssevo even at the last point when south sudan will come to its peace… He wont be happy at any point and why…? Because its beneficial for him since the country is having an up n down instability, he still benefits millitarily!! If i was kiir, i would think of the innocent citizens who will suffer if this whole thing fails to be brought together. I wouldnt draw a line between me and my fellow citizen and joining up an ally with a person who manipulates my entire medulla🤔

Anyone who has some knowledge about Africa’s tribal and ethnic politics know that reducing the no of states and combining rival tribes is not a solution of any kind.

  • museveni should bear his mind this well let him not be the victim against this country, did he know how long we had struggled to get this nation, otherwise to my side I stand the numbers of the state to be reduced from 32 to the previous 10 states to avoid inconvenience

  • Museveni should stop in Uganda with his dictatorship but not crossing boarders.
We only need our president to decide himself not any other one who is peaceful in his country and only admires the number of refugees suffering in his country

SOUTH SUDAN is bigger then DR Riek and Mr Kiir , however i do agree with Mr Kiir on the numbers of states
to remain 32 plus Abeyi because in order to develop a country you need expansion and representation of
every one and 32 states plus Abeyi can show that there will be inclusiveness in Governance, who ever reject this has a hidden agenda he or she is may be against the development of this country .

The question of today is not about how many states should we have, its about if the transitional government that is to be form will delivery services to the people, but if we walk away from the issue of states and turn to the old ten states, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every south Sudanese people in the villages. Understanding this reality requires a reminder of how we are working together, how we can move beyond some of our old racial wounds, and that in fact we have a choice if we are to continue on the path of bringing peace to the people.
Riak and his opposition should think of what to in bringing peace to the people because it was not the issue of states that let him rebel against the government.
If people are content with this 32 states Raik must accept to form the transitional government weather he like or not.
    32 states plus abeyi oyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
