South Africa’s Haysom takes over UN role in South Sudan

Juba, April 25, 2021 (SSNA) — The United Nations has appointed Nicholas Haysom to head the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) has confirmed.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres first made public the appointment of Haysom in January this year.

The new UNMISS head who took over today (Sunday) will also serve as a Special Representative of the Secretary-General in South Sudan. Haysom, a South African lawyer took over the UNMISS leadership role from David Shearer.
