Juba, January 3, 2022 (SSNA) — The speaker of South Sudan Revitalized Transitional Parliament Jema Nunu Kumba has appointed specialized committee chairpersons and deputies from the two main peace partners, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Government (SPLM-IG) popularly known as SPLM led by President Salva Kiir, the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) has learned.

The speaker has not revealed appointments from smaller parties like South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), Other Opposition Parties (OOP), and Former Detainees (FDs) as stipulated in the peace agreement. It is clear when the parliament will move on the matter.

In a new twist, the SSNA noticed that the list of the appointed members of the specialized committees includes Akuot Chan Kwac as deputy chairperson for peace and reconciliation. However, Akuot Chan, who used to be a member of parliament died years ago. The office of speaker later admitted the mistake and said the position is being given to another parliamentarian.
