Juba, December 19, 2013 (SSNA) — Fresh fightings have been reported in Unity and Jonglei States. Heavy gunfire was also heard in an area close to Bilpham, the headquarters of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), Eyewitnesses said.
A clash between oil workers in oil-rich Unity State left at least 16 people dead.
The Headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in both States are reported to have been attacked.
The UN has reported that three of its peacekeepers stationed in Jonglei were also killed.
Tension remains high throughout the country with residents of Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile State, describing the situation there as "an explosive waiting to go off at any moment".
The alleged ‘coup attempt’ that occurred on the 15th of December in Juba creates unpredictable situation in the country, raising fear of a full scale civil war.
