Khartoum, September 8, 2019 (SSNA) — The leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army-In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) Dr. Riek Machar will go to Juba tomorrow to have a face-to-face meeting with South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir.

The news comes three days after the East African regional bloc, IGAD, announced on Friday that Kiir agreed to meet with Machar in Juba.

A senior SPLM-IO official who asked his name not be disclosed because he was not authorized to talk to the media told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) on Sunday that the two leaders must use the meeting to resolve outstanding issues and warned that the young nation could easily go back to full-scale war if peace is not implemented correctly.”

“Yes I can confirm that Machar is going to Juba tomorrow for a meeting with Kiir. They must find a good way for peace or war could resume,” the armed opposition official said.

The SSNA understands that Kiir has in the past refused to conduct a face-to-face meeting with Machar at least three times. Two meetings were scheduled to take place in Ethiopia and one in Djibouti but Kiir declined to attend any of them, saying was he “very busy.”

Dr. Machar will be accompanied by senior Sudanese government officials.

  • It is good that the two rival leaders meets in JUBA for a face to face talk in order to end the senseless war that has ruined the economic of the country, killed millions of innocent civilian, and devastated many homes in the young nation. I wish this meeting will be fruitful.

I think face-to-face talks of the two leads in our own capital – Juba is much better than any mediated talks they would have held elsewhere. This will build trust and confidence among the political parties
and citizens which is a better way and cheaper means to peace.

  • Why does he come and go back he should remind and stay that is not peace talk I think machar is running bankruptcy so he wants to come and recharge his pocket and goes back South Sudanese if it was a peace talks it wouldn’t have taken 3yrs of nogetiation just that machar is getting interest in this this talk can take them even one day to finish what they want to say look wen museveni had issues with Paul kagambe they didn’t involved IGAD I think it would be better since riak has come or coming they should discuss us the brothers of this country without any selfish interest good leaders cares about their country and people .they should go to any length to see better South Sudan but what we see instead is machar going to any length to get the presidency post this selfishness let’s first care about people then positions later of machar wants a good leadership in South Sudan and salve kiir thinks he can manage the let him leave him alone and we watch him .machar tried many coups but failed I honestly tell him to let us leave in peace this time and see what salve kiir can do for better South Sudan. I wish I could get a chance to mobilise youth so that we can demand for machar to not to leave again of he is unsecured even we are also unsecured life is the same let us all face this crisis .

South Sudanese if it was a peace talks it wouldn’t have taken 3yrs of nogetiation just that machar is getting interest in this talk it cant take them even one day to finish what they want to say look wen museveni had issues with Paul kagambe they didn’t involved IGAD but instead called themselves secret and resolves their issues.
