Juba, October 11, 2013 (SSNA) — South Sudan Law Society (SSLS) is hereby looking for a qualified South Sudanese National to fill the below position. The successful person is expected to assume his/her office as soon as possible. Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Human Resource Officer (1)

Purpose of the position

The purpose of this position is to strengthen the Employer-Employees relationship and ensure a conducive working environment.

Key responsibilities

·         Working closely with departments, increasingly in a consultancy role, assisting line managers to understand and implement policies and procedures;

·         Promoting equality and diversity as part of the culture of the organization;

·         Liaising with a wide range of people involved in policy areas such as staff performance and health and safety;

·         Recruiting staff – this includes developing job descriptions and person specifications, preparing job adverts, checking application forms, shortlisting, interviewing and selecting candidates;

·         Developing and implementing policies on issues such as working conditions, performance management, equal opportunities, disciplinary procedures and absence management;

·         Preparing staff handbooks;

·         Advising on pay and other remuneration issues, including promotion and benefits;

·         Undertaking regular salary reviews;

·         Negotiating with staff and their representatives on issues relating to pay and conditions;

·         Administering payroll and maintaining employee records;

·         Interpreting and advising on employment law;

·         Dealing with grievances and implementing disciplinary procedures;

·         Developing with line managers HR planning strategies which consider immediate and long-term staff requirements;

·         Planning, and sometimes delivering, training, including inductions for new staff;

·         Analysing training needs in conjunction with departmental managers.

·         Prepare statistical breakdowns including analysis of sickness/absence and holidays.

 

Position specifications

·         Degree in Human Resource Management or related field from a recognised university

·         Minimum 2 years administration experience

·         Excellent Computer skills

·         Good planning, organizational, analytical and decision-making skills

·         Be patient, tactful, diplomatic and approachable

·         Be able to deal with people who are stressed or upset 

·         Be able to stay calm in difficult situation

·         Basic knowledge of employment law and labour law

·         Have good spoken and written communication skills

·         Be confident about gathering facts and statistics and making financial calculations  

·         Respect the importance of confidentiality and professionalism

·         Have good organization skills and be able to develop plans, policies and forecasts

·         Have problem solving skills to deal with disputes, grievances and staffing problems

·         Be able to work as part of a team

·         Be able to work accurately, with good attention to detail

·         Be able to use databases, spread sheets, word processing and accounts packages
