South Sudan’s High Delegation Arrives in Canada on Citizens Briefing Tour

Calgary, August 15, 2014 (SSNA) — The South Sudanese Community Association in Canada, particularly in Calgary, Alberta is delighted to announce that it has received high delegation from South Sudan. The high delegation is on the citizens briefing tour to inform them about the genesis of the crisis and way forward. The team is led by former ambassador to United States of America, Amb. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth.

Ambassador Gatkuoth is accompanied by former deputy ambassador to Tanzania and Jonglei’s former minister of education, Hon. Par Kuol Wang and the Sudan People Liberation Movement and Army representative to the United Nations in New York, Mr. Miyong kuon.

It’s paramount to note that Ambassador Gatkouth was among the 11 South Sudan’s political detainees jailed on December 17th, 2013 following the South Sudan’s crisis, erupted on 15th of December 2013. The political detainees were falsely accused of staging a coup attempt against the government of South Sudan.

So, when the rest of the political detainees (G7) were released due to lack of sufficient evidence, Amb. Gatkouth and others including former SPLM Gen. Sec. Mr. Pagan Amum, former deputy minister of defense, Dr. Majak Agot and former South Sudan chief of General Staff, Oyai Deng Ajak remained behind bars while facing treason charges.  Subsequently, the 4 leaders were taken to court and again acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

The high delegation as mentioned above is purposely on citizens briefing tour about the genesis of the crisis eating up the world newest nation. The conflict has so far left thousands innocent civilians dead and millions displaced internally and to the neighboring countries. The team will also brief South Sudanese – Canadians and friends about the way forward on how to avoid the looming famine and amicably arrest the continued bloodshed in South Sudan.

Therefore, the South Sudan community Association is delighted and kindly invites all south Sudanese and friends living in the province of Alberta and its sounding areas to attend the briefings scheduled for Friday, August 15th and Saturday, August 16th, 2014.

First and foremost, the delegation will brief members of the SPLM party on Friday, August 15th, 2014 at 5:30 PM -9:30 PM at St. Michael Church on 8000 85 street SW, Calgary, AB.

On Saturday, August 16th, 2014 at 10:30 AM -3:30 PM, the team will meet with all South Sudanese at the same venue. However, from 5:45 PM – 9:30 PM on Saturday, August 16th, 2014, the delegate will be attending the South Sudanese’s Gala organized by the community where the Alberta’s Justice Minister is a guest speaker.

Sunday, August 17th, 2014 is set aside for various South Sudanese communities and friends of South Sudan special meetings. Times and venues for these special meetings will be made available on the due course.
