South Sudan warring parties to sign peace in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, September 11, 2018 (SSNA) — South Sudan’s incumbent Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU), the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO), and other political parties will sign the revitalized peace agreement in Ethiopia this week, an IGAD diplomatic source told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) Tuesday in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.

The source who preferred anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media explained that SPLM-IO’s leader Dr. Riek Machar and other key leaders of other groups are already the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and that South Sudanese President Salva Kiir will arrive in Ethiopia in a few days.

“We believe there is a chance to end the war. The power-sharing deal and security arrangements are critical chapters in the pact. We in IGAD are tirelessly working to make sure peace return to this young nation,” said the diplomat.

“Rebel leader and some leaders of other groups are already here in Addis. We expect Kiir to join them in a few days,” he explained.

The Diplomat also disclosed that South Sudanese refugees in neighboring East African countries will be represented in this final stage, stating that “peace message needs to be spread in all South Sudanese refugee camps.” He later revealed that the final peace proposal will be revealed during the signing ceremony.

The South Sudan News Agency has learned that the armed opposition still does not like Legislative proposal, the issue of 32 states among others.
