Juba, January 28, 2018 (SSNA) — The government of South Sudan has accused the European Union (EU) and the Troika countries namely the United Kingdom, Norway, and the United States, saying the two blocs refuse to support parties to the peace.
South Sudan’s information minister and government spokesman, Michael Makuey Lueth, lashed out many unnamed countries he claims are working days and nights against the ongoing peace process. The government spokesman claims the world is divided over the peace implementation.
“The international community is divided. Within the international community, there are people who are against the peace agreement,” Michael told an audience at a forum in Juba.
The visible furious minister then singled out the EU and Troika as an obstacle to peace without giving specifics.
“There is this group of TROIKA and the European Union; these people are not clear. They are not for peace because they said ‘you [parties] first implement this peace agreement. If you implement it well, then we will support you’. We told them that ‘if we can implement it without you, then we will not need your support again, because it is high time for us now to get your support,” He declared.
During his speech, Michael repeatedly accused unnamed countries of smuggling out the leader of the National Salvation Front (NAS) Thomas Cirillo from Sudan to Ethiopia. He further asserted that the same nations smuggled out the NAS leader from Ethiopia to Djibouti and then to the United States.
It is not clear why Micheal accuse Western countries of working against the peace.
However, a senior government official at the ministry of foreign affairs told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) on the condition of anonymity that the South Sudanese government is very angry because Western countries, especially the Troika nations refuse to fund the peace implementation process.
Last week, the war-wracked young nation declared that it has only $1.6 million of the proposed $20 million dollars needed for the implementation of the September 2018 agreement.
