Juba, February 4, 2019 (SSNA) — The government of South Sudan has charged Maj. Gen. Stephen Buoy Rolnyang with treason, a senior military officer with the military court told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) on Monday.
The announcement comes more than eight months after the General was arrested in May 2018 in Mayom county.
The source said Gen. Stephen is now officially accused of treason including a plot to overthrow the government. The same source, however, asserts that the former army General is simply being prosecuted for refusing to report to the army general headquarters in 2018 and that this failure to report is the main source of the problem.
The South Sudan News Agency was also told that President Salva Kiir is trying to punish Stephen Buay simply because the General has a dispute with his state officials and that Kiir is siding with unnamed state officials who hated the fallen General.
