Ethiopian Prime Minister, Eritrean President visit South Sudan

Juba, March 4, 2019 (SSNA) — The Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki visited South Sudan on Monday. PM Abiy’s office says on a social media post that the trip is centered on bolstering peace and economic ties in the region.

“PM Abiy Ahmed and President Isaias Afwerki have arrived in Juba, South Sudan. During their stay in Juba, they will hold discussions with President Salva Kiir and other higher government officials on regional peace, economic ties and infrastructure dev’t,” the Ethiopian PM office announced on Twitter.

The announcement also explains that PM Abiy and President Isaias boarded a plane from the Eritrean capital, Asmara, to Juba. The two leaders have left Juba for Addis Ababa and Asmara.

A source with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) on Monday that Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta was also in Asmara on Sunday along with the Ethiopian leader.
