Addis Ababa, April 19, 2019 (SSNA) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has for the third time reshuffled his cabinet, signaling yet a new era for reforms in the East African nation of more than 100 million people.
In a move some Ethiopian observers seen as strategic, the Ethiopian leader appointed the influential Oromia’s regional President, Lemma Megersa, as Defense Minister, former President of Amhara region Gedu Andargachew as Foreign Minister.
A senior Ethiopian federal official with the ministry of foreign affairs who declined to be named in the report because he was not authorized to talk to the media told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) that the move PM Abiy took is the right one and that Ethiopia is moving in the right direction. The official praised Lemma Megersa, describing him as “good man who championed reforms” from the beginning.
“I can tell you many government officials and ordinary Ethiopians are happy Lemma is now Ethiopia Defense Minister. He deserves it,” declares the official, adding, “Ethiopian armed forces need to be reformed to match with the Prime Minister reform agenda.”
In a video seen by the SSNA, Lemma was showered with praises from his colleagues including the President of Tigray region Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael.
The outgoing Defense minister Aisha Mohammed who hails from Afar region has been appointed to serve as Ethiopia Housing and Construction Minister.
Prime Minister Dr. Abiy has been praised worldwide for restoring relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Why is shield himself your commentary. Lemma’s appointment as a defence minister is a demotion in position. But,the PM’s objective to put in this way is secret. Bcs, Lemma’s stand point of view about the issue of Addis Ababa and to baptize the defence by Ormo officers is a hidden assignment for him. Any ways,Lemma’s presence in this area has as hidden agenda in remaking the military. But,Gedu’s appointment is as coincedence at the expense of Prof. Berhanu Nega. And its as vengeful act for TPLF,and to quite the Amhara elites,when team Lemma will scrutnize and perform the secret agenda.
