Juba, April 22, 2019 (SSNA) — South Sudan’s government and the main opposition party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) have accused each other of not being serious about the implementation of the September 2918 peace agreement.

The accusations come as the May 12 stipulated in the deal as the date to form a provisional government approaches.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has stepped up call for the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar to come to Juba to form a unity government. In his Easter message, Kiir for the second time urges Dr. Machar to come to Juba to form a government.

“On the occasion of Easter as your leaders, we are working together to bring peace to our country. It is not too late, I am inviting Dr. Riek Machar to urgently return to Juba so that we can work together to expedite the process of forming the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity,” Kiir said.

President Kiir also asserts that Machar should come to Juba if he is serious about peace implementation.

However, the SPLM-IO fired back, calling on Kiir to follow peace provisions as stipulated in the deal. The armed opposition told Kiir that there is no need to form the government at this time because the security arrangements must be the first to be implemented.

The SPLM-IO also requested that a six months extension is needed to implement peace provisions before a transitional government is formed, accusing the government of trying to pursue “shortcuts” to achieve peace.

  • If i can suggest this, if Mr. Riek Machar doesn’t want to come and participate in the formation of transitional government, then there is no reason to hold the people and the country hostage simply because there is a man with an utter absolute ego.

Most of Mr. Riek Machar lieutenants are already in Juba and some are far better than Riek Machar. They can just take over like what Mr. Taban Deng Gai did. A country’s leadership isn’t always orphaned. For instance, When Dr. John Garang (a real PhD) died in 2005.

Someone else took over and here we in 2019. Besides, there are video-links and Mr. Riek Machar can participate in the formation of the transitional while he is in Khartoum. His vice president post can stay vacant and the country move. Mr. Riek Machar can then come back in six months he so wishes.

There are some states by the way where Mr. Riek Machar will never set his feet into whether with million foreign mercenaries or not. And Mr. Riek Machar knows this simple fact

  • There is no need to rush for formation of the new government, one army and issue of number of States are very important issues that need much attention. After all there had been two attempts on life of Dr.Riak Machar. What is the grantee that there will be no third attempt on his life? Being in hurry makes dogs to deliver young ones blind.

  • There is more things needed to be ironed before formation of unity government,so if you guys understand this then there is no unity government in place and that means there is partial one right there. To start with Kiir partial,Machar partial and the rest come together are called unity one.If someone tried to exaggerate the issue like supporting Kiir rushing attitude to form a unify government remember no one will back you up internationally for this is the last resort for having your bread on table to eat. Nobody else than Kiir keeping south sudanese hostage when it come to who to blame on this mess going on in south sudan,if not sure go travel advice to south sudan,it is red and salva kiir is responsible for sure dont just beat around the bushes fellows. And out killing one tribe, follow to make war, another war after signing peace agreement, please think twice before you make comments.
