Juba, April 24, 2019 (SSNA) — South Sudanese main opposition party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) has rejected call by the government to form a Transitional Government of National Unity (TGONU), a senior aide to the SPLM-IO leadership who prefers his name not be revealed because he was not authorized to talk to the media told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) today in Juba.

The official blasted the government, saying “they are banking on something” that will never be accepted by the armed opposition.

“AS you know President called on our leader Dr. Machar to come here in Juba to form a provisional government because the date [May 12] is approaching. Yes, we agree the dateline stipulated in the agreement is very near. But there is no way a transitional government can be formed when all key provisions [security arrangements] are not implemented,” the SPLM-IO official explains.

“There are a lot of things the government is refusing to follow including a formation of a hybrid court to try those responsible for war crimes and crimes and against humanity. We know they are banking on something that will never occur. This is a violation of the last year peace deal. The SPLM-IO is ready for peace but will not accept the demand of those who are working to repeat the mistake of 2016,” the source added.

When pushed to elaborate what the armed opposition really wants before a unity government can be formed, the rebel official responded by saying, “SPLM-IO assembled all its forces in containment areas, government repeatedly refuses to disclose all barracks of its troops, deny peace monitors to inspect locations of its forces, refuses to allocate budget for our forces, and the bounder commission is yet to complete its work.”

The official asserts that the SPLM-IO is fully aware of the intention of the government and that warns that no one will force the armed opposition to be a part of a transitional government if security arrangements are not fully implemented.

“Shortcuts to a provisional government without first implementing security arrangements is not in our political dictionary,” the source declared.

The South Sudan News Agency was also told by the same official that mistrust between government and rebel forces is slowly boiling.

The SPLM-IO has asked for a six months extension, saying “it is needed for full execution the agreement.”

I think it would so nice if the government could follow the peace framework designed to streamline implementation process so that this becomes a genuine peace deal that recognized all parties . we need peace no returning to war!

I think the SPLM/A-IO is right to put it like that. I agreed with them.

If he was not authorized, that’s mean he has no ground and the message he delivered is null and void. no room for delay they are longing for

Early beginning makes a successful journey.Looking the case of 2016,if both sides need a genuine peace then all the matrix must be followed properly, delayment by a day, months, years is not a problem ;what we wanted is peace, otherwise if it fails this time then no need for leadership at all.

  • I am telling Kiir that implement peace agreement as stipulated in the papers signed otherwise the world is busy each country in their own affairs no one will come and watch your drama in south Sudan at the moment again.Last year peace agreement signed and you are given 8 months to finish and did not start any article of the agreement.if you think rushing the unify government to formation it means you rushing yourself to unknown, and some of your administration members said no money for implementation while many donors donated money in their millions but end up in pockets.now your visit Emirate you secure $10 millions and said you will send south Sudanese women to Emirate to work as maids, why? you already got money just hire them to work in South Sudan and it is wise to be good to your people not treat them harshly.Pope the best spiritual person to solve problem, when you Kiir were there you said you trembled for Pope to kiss your feet and he did his part spiritually so what make you rush? remember the kissing is not simple and it is the first for Papal to do that no other nations leaders feet been kissed and world was watch as well as God
