Addis Ababa/Juba, April 27, 2019 (SSNA) — South Sudan’s main opposition factions will be in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, next week to participate in talks designed the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to bolster the implementation of the September 2018 peace agreement, the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) has learned.

The move comes as South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) leader Dr. Riek Machar disagreed over ways to execute the deal.

The SSNA understands that Machar agreed to attend the meeting, but his rival, Kiir refused to attend but assured IGAD that he will be represented by his delegation.

Last week, Kiir asked Machar to go to Juba to form a transitional government as May 12 dateline stipulates in the pact approaches. However, the armed opposition leader rejected the call, citing security arrangements.

Machar explained to Kiir that he cannot accept his call for the formation of a provisional government because, according to him, the formation of transitional is the last one after implementation of peace main provisions (security arrangements).

There is wide speculation in South Sudan that the government is trying to repeat the 2016 scenario by attempting to bypass implementations of security arrangements.

The peace talks are scheduled to begin on May 2. 2019.

  • This is a clear indication that the dictatorial regime in Juba is not for peace. When welwishers for real peace were doubting the Khartoum fake agreement because it does not address the root causes of the fundamental problems of SS, IGAD and the regime in Juba started intimidating them and gave them names and called them anti peace elements but now the truth is coming out. SPLM/A under Kiir failed the people of SS and turned SPLM/A from people’s liberation movement to a monster against the people of SS. Where is billions of dollars from oil money gone? Is there any single major project build by the current facist regime? The answer is no.
Old historical schools like Rumbek, Juba girls and others were turn to be universities instead of building new infrastructures. Dividing SS into 32 tribale enclaves on illusion that it is SPLM vision of taking towns to people. That is a complete rubbish and liars. SPLM vision is not to divide the country into tribal entities but to provide services such as education, hospitals, good roads, electricity, clean water, agriculture projects, socio-economic development to the people of SS in their Counties, Payams and Bumas so that they don’t have to travel far distance in quest of these services. This is what the vision of SPLM is about. This is what our late heroe Dr John was talking about. And if any one want to know more about this you can lock on youtube and listen the explanation of Dr John. JCE is using Salfa Kiir for the destruction of SPLM vision for its tribal agenda. The regime is just buying time and if Dr Riek made a stupid mistake by coming to Juba, let his deputy in Juba prepare a good coffin for him.

  • Kiir must not take ordinary South Sudanese for fools. The human being has limits to bearing pain. We have lost more than we can offer under his government and the SPLA/M. The next thing for the people to do is coming.

Many East African people including IGAD as mediator, are wondering why president has shosen shortcut to the peace implementation by neglecting the very document which have been praised for peace in South Sudan before the Pope Francise ! If the IGAD as mediator will accept that move,vSouth Sudanese will have their own choice which will finally end up with non-existence of South Sudan as country because it is what most east African leaders are very interesting for. But assure you Riek Machar’s death will not end the rebellion though Jieng elder of council frustrated on that.

  • All idiotic South Sudanese are always commenting on the negative parts of those rivals’s leaders but that shouldn’t be excuse because peace is not for them alone.
The peace hunger groups are tired of this bull-shit forth and back repetition of fake peace talk.
We, the citizens of SS have to come out clearly and tell them ( Kiir & Riek) either to agree or forget about peace such that the citizens will decided what to do next.
