Juba, May 1, 2019 (SSNA) — In a strongly worded statement, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) has blasted the government for killing two of its senior officials, saying those who committed “this act of terror” must be brought to book.

“…the SPLM-IO leadership condemns this barbaric act. We call upon the government to bring to book all those who participated in committing this act of terror including kidnappers and officials in South Sudan Embassy in Kenya,” the SPLM-IO says.

The condemnation comes less than a day after a confidential United Nations report which documented the disappearance of human rights lawyer and Activist Dong Samuel Luak and SPLM-IO official Aggrey Ezbon Idri was leaked to the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA).

In the statement signed by the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar, the armed opposition criticized the government and calls for the case to be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“…the SPLM-IO calls upon the UN Security Council to refer the matter to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute those involved in this crime,” the statement further asserted.

In the text, the SPLM-IO praises the deceased officials, describing them as “heroes,” and vows to push for the formation for a Hybrid Court to try those who committed war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The UN report explicitly concluded that the two men were kidnapped in Kenya in January 2017, were killed in Luri by South Sudan National Security Services (NSS) on the order of its Director Akol Koor.
