Juba, July 6, 2019 (SSNA) — The government of South Sudan is run by people who depend on lies, deceit, and propaganda, a senior official of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) who does not want his name to be published because of sensitivity of his work told the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA).

In an exclusive interview on Saturday, the armed opposition official complains that the ongoing peace implementation process will not materialize because the government is implementing lies instead of peace.

“We [SPLM/A-IO] were asked to respect peace signatories and bring our soldiers to cantonment sites and we complied. We were also told our forces will have a budget from the oil revenues, but it turned out to be a lie,” the official complains.

Pressed to explain why he thinks the government is depending on lies, the SPLM/A-IO official simply invites the SSNA reporters to visit all areas where their troops are located with a seemingly warning emblem.”

“We are more than willing to invite the South Sudan News Agency to visit all our cantonment sites. We don’t hide. We are for peace but the government is fooling us. We will never go in for a deal that will not bring real peace,” the SPLM-IO official says.

The South Sudan News Agency understands that SPLM-IO and the government are making progress to the implement the agreement.

However, two senior SSNA analysts who have strong links with the government conclude that the peace deal will not be implemented in November 2019, warning, “it is just the time the government wants to implement its own peace pact.”
