Juba, August 19, 2019 (SSNA) — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has denied a report by the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) that the East African regional bloc will not resolve South Sudan civil war peacefull because of Ugandan double-dealing in the war-wracked young nation.

Today (on Monday), IGAD Secretariat released a press statement disputing the report.

“The attention of IGAD Secretariat and IGAD South Sudan Office has been drawn to a report in the South Sudan News Agency website (https://ssnanews.com) headed Leaked memo: Uganda is the real threat to peace in South Sudan. The contents of the Report are attributed to an alleged IGAD Secretariat Internal Memo leaked to the South Sudan News Agency. The location and date are indicated as Addis Ababa, August 16, 2019 (SSNA),” IGAD says in the statement.

IGAD defends Uganda, claiming Uganda obeys the September 2018 peace agreement and that Kampala is one of the deal guarantors.

“Uganda unwaveringly adheres to IGAD’s Mission and Mandate, as do all the other seven member States and in this regard continues to play a crucial role towards the peaceful resolution of the conflict in South Sudan and the Guarantors to the 2018 R-ARCSS remains key to unlocking many of the issues that are impeding the implementation of the R-ARCSS,” the statement continues.

Last Friday, an IGAD internal memo was leaked to the SSNA by a credible source. The source, who works for the IGAD assured the SSNA that the memo was accurate and credible. An independent investigation by the South Sudan New Agency also confirmed that the memorandum was credible.

“We [IGAD] are playing with our minds. There will never be peace in South Sudan as long as other IGAD member states keep quiet. The real threat in South Sudan is Uganda, and we must confront Uganda if we want peace to return to South Sudan,” An IGAD official wrote to the SSNA last week.

The official also disclosed that South Sudanese President Salva Kiir is paying $1 million dollars a month to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

IGAD denies that Museveni is receiving money from Kiir and calls for what they described as “responsible journalism.”

The South Sudan News Agency is hereby confirming that it stands by its August 16 report because the person who leaked the document is one of the high-ranking and trusted IGAD officials. The SSNA will not reveal the name of the source but will consider doing so if IGAD keeps denying its own mistake. We would like our audience and supporters to know that the SSNA is working to reveal other peace-impeding issues in the very near future.

It can also be recalled that the South Sudan News Agency was the first South Sudanese news outlet to report Ugadan involvement in South Sudan’s internal affairs months before the civil war broke out.

I think IGAD is “useful idiot”, not Salva Kiir as such.

  • In 1956 the British government sugested that South Sudan be joined with Uganda but the Egyptian worked hard to make it a part of Sudan so when the independent of South Sudan was posible Museveni had to kill John Garang first so he can play with the minds of weak leaders like Kiir. So he must be the one behind the differences among SPLM leaders that brought the civil war in the country therefore unless he is confronted by the international community there will be no peace in south Sudan until he annex the whole country or most part of it he will continue to play his dirty game
