Juba, April 10, 2021 (SSNA) — The President of South Sudan Salva Kiir has removed Chief of Staff of the military General Johnson Juma Okot and replaced him with General Santino Deng Wol.

Kiir also fired many officials including Minister of Presidential Affairs Nhial Deng Nhial, Director-General of the South Sudan National Intelligence Bureau (External Security), among others.

The President issued a republican decree for the removal of the officials on Saturday and the decree was broadcasted live on the state-run SSBCTV.

No specific reasons were given for the dismissals. South Sudan’s President has a history of not revealing reasons for removing top government officials.
